Biobanking between ethical issue and providing treatments for people

Health is very important for humans, but sometimes treatment of disease becomes necessary. People have faced cancer before, in the last centuries, but these days cancer is more widespread. Because of this scientists are trying to find treatments to cure cancer. They need to study cancer cells and genes and do research so it will lead them to get lots of results. They therefore decided to build a biobank as store for human samples.

Coastal zone space in Indonesia: Prelude to conflict?

With 17,504 islands (12,000 inhabited) and 95,181 km of coastline, Indonesia represents an amazing maritime country, and of crucial proportion in managing their coastal zones, small islands and ocean. Culturally the coastal zones are mixed ethnically, and socially a zone of conflicting interest which arose in all level of bureaucrat and stakeholders. Indonesia’s coastal and small island ecosystems and their marine biological diversity is core of national assets. If our use of them is well managed, they can meet a broad range of economic, social and cultural aspirations.

Performance evaluation of OFDM using MIMO-STTC for AWGN, RAYLEIGH, combined Rayleigh with AWGN and RICIAN channel for WIMAX and Bluetooth application

This paper discusses the OFDM in wireless communication. It includes Bit Error Rate and Symbol Error Rate verses ratio of bit energy to noise power spectral density (Eb/No) for different communication channels like AWGN channel, Rayleigh multipath Channel, combined Rayleigh multipath with AWGN channel and Rician Channel. The BER is 10-5, 10-4.5, 10-4 and 10-3 respectively for above communication channels at 30dB of SNR. This simulation is designed on MATLAB 9 version with 64-point FFT. The coding which is done in this paper is STTC for MIMO.

Some new proposed ridge parameters for the logistic regression model

The parameter estimation method that based on the minimum residual sum of squares is unsatisfactory in the presence of multicollinearity. In (1970) Hoerl and Kennard introduced an alternative estimation approach which is called the ridge regression (RR) estimator. In RR approach, ridge parameter plays an important role in the parameter estimation. Many researchers are suggested various methods for determining the ridge parameter for the RR approach and they generalized their methods to be applicable for the logistic ridge regression (LRR) model. Anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity of curcuma longa l. collected from Uttarakhand

The plant extracts of Curcuma longa L., a perennial herb is a member of the Zingiberaceae (ginger) family. The methanolic extracts were investigated for its anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities in animal models. The extract at different doses used showed good anti-inflammatory activity which has been done significantly, by the formation of paw edema induced by carrageenan model. Anti-inflammatory effects of plants were monitored every hour after carrageenan injection. These results were also comparable to Indomethacin, the reference drugs used in this study.

Destruction of weeds grown in pots using the hot foam method

Generally, weed control is conducted in the form of hoeing or chemical control. Hoeingis difficult and performed using manpower; on the other hand, chemical control has harmful effects on the environment. In this study, the hot foam application was employed as a method for weed control. For this method, first a hot foam machine with a digital indicator was produced. Wild oats (Avena fatua), English ryegrass (Lolium perenne), and wild clover (Medicago sativa) were separately planted in three control pots and in three hot foam application pots.

Technology development framework for Ghana: The role of technical and research institutions

This paper, focused on developing a framework for the manufacturing of technologies for local industry in Africa using Ghana as the case sought to identify causes of technology underdevelopment in Ghana. Ghana’s industrialisation efforts have been faced with persistent failures despite the large acquisition of capital-intensive technologies and, in a broader scope, the historic narrative of Africa’s technology lag, accounting for the rudimentary state of its indigenous technologies. In this view, this study took a cautious approach in its methodology.

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma with low grade differentiation - a case report

Introduction: Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLS) is a rare sarcoma accounting for only 2% of all soft tissue sarcomas. It is the most common liposarcoma of the retroperitoneum. It is defined as the morphological progression of a well-differentiated liposarcoma to a nonadipocytic sarcoma. Case Presentation: A 61 years old male presented to the outpatient department with symptoms of abdominal pain associated with distension for a duration of 2 months. A CT abdomen performed outside hospital showed a retroperitoneal mass for which he underwent a retroperitoneal tumor excision.

Farmers’ perception towards livestock service delivery of non-governmental organizations in Bihar, India

The present study was undertaken in Bihar state of India to know the perception of livestock farmers towards the role of two non-governmental organizations viz. BAIF and J.K. Trust in delivery of livestock services. Data were collected through pre-tested semi-structured interview schedule from 120 randomly selected livestock farmers. The study revealed that majority of the farmers were middle aged, literate, having medium sized family and possessing marginal land holding with agriculture as primary and animal husbandry as subsidiary occupation.
