The new era of human genomics and emerging bioethical issues

The new era of human genetic research has begun with the completion of Human Genome Project in 2003. Consequently, a standard functional human genome map has been produced depicting location, sequence, functions and mode of regulation of approximately one lakh genes of entire human genome. Because of advances in information and communication technology and genomic technologies, DNA sequencing, testing and manipulation are now faster, cheaper, and more accurate as compared to 15 years ago.

A comparative study of Spani composites and Spani nanocomposites prepared from musa sapientum

Biosorption of cr (vi) from aqueous solution by unmodified and modified sugarcane bagasse

Chromium has been widely used in various industries like textile, leather, paint industry and many other industries. Since hexavalent chromium is a priority toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic chemical when present in excess, it is very much required to remove chromium from effluent before allowing it to enter any water system or on to land. In the present work the removal of Cr(VI) by adsorption on the sugarcane bagasse sodium hydroxide modified sugarcane bagasse were studied. The effect of pH and initial metal ion concentration on the biosorption of Cr(VI) ions were investigated.

The role of chemical compounds used in natural rubber production process on the etiology of nasopharyngeal cancer

Introduction and Objectives: Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) has been shown to be highly associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Its incidence is higher in Chinese populations living in southern China, Malaysia, and Indonesia due to particular ethnic genetic polymorphisms. Anyway, the cancerogenesis activation happens only after the exposure to some environmental factorslarge scale epidemiological studies proposed associations between various dietary habits and an increase in risk for nasopharyngeal cancer, mainly for salted fish consumption.
