Microbiological quality of water for human consumption of the palmares settlement in Araguatins, Tocantins

The importance of assessing water quality for human consumption is based on the fact that it is one of the main vehicles for infectious diseases. The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of water for human consumption through the microbiological characterization of water from open and closed wells of Palmares, Araguatins (TO) settlement. The collections were carried out during the period from 16 to 20 October in two settlement wells. The results obtained were compared with the Ministry of Health Resolution No. 2,914 of 12/12/2011.

Effect of land-use change on water-stable aggregates and soil chemical properties within of two cultivated fields in khost province, Afghanistan

Conventional farming system may cause physical and chemical soil degradation. Plant residue retention can be used to improve soil aggregation and chemical properties. However, the effectiveness of plant residue retention in conventional farming (CF) system remains unclear. Therefore, we studied the influence of plant residue retention on the water-stable aggregates, mean weight diameter of water-stable aggregates, bulk density and soil chemical properties.

Evaluation of the concentration of heavy metals in fillets of pangasius hypophthalmus (Sauvage, 1878), Panga, imported from Vietnam

Studies in several countries have warned on the contamination of fish by heavy metals, especially Pangasius hypophthalmus, farmed in the Mekong river, Vietnam, one of the most polluted rivers in the world, and exported to all countries. Current paper quantifies the concentrations of heavy metals in samples of frozen panga fillets. Risk to human health associated to the consumption of fillets was calculated according to heavy metal levels.

Knowledge on risk factors to breast cancer and self -examination, among women of reproductive age (15-49 years) at longisa county referral hospital, Bomet County, Kenya

Globally, breast cancer incidence is on the rise, especially in developing countries and it is the most diagnosed cancer among women in Kenya. For the prevention and treatment, knowledge on early detection and risk factors is very important, however this has not been assessed among women of reproductive age attending Longisa County Referral Hospital Bomet County, Kenya. The study adopted a cross-sectional hospital based design to assess the knowledge on early detection and risk factors to breast cancer among 194 women of reproductive age (15-49 years).

Herbicide selectivity in the forage palm

The objective of the present study was to assess the selectivity of five herbicides and their potential pre-emergent control over weeds in the forage palm crops. A completely randomized design was used to evaluate selectivity in triple factorial (2 x 5 x 7) considering varieties, herbicides and seasons assessed, respectively. In turn, the experiment to evaluate weed control was conducted with a completely randomized design with five treatments and one control with eight replications, yielding a total of 48 units.
