Prevalence of intestinal parasitoses: in children aged 1 to 5 years in a public laboratory in a city in SouthWestern Bahia

Objective: To determine the prevalence of intestinal parasite infections in children aged 1 to 5 years in a public laboratory in Southwest Bahia. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional research was carried out in the city of Vitória da Conquista, located in the State of Bahia, from January to June 2019. Data from the results of laboratory tests of children aged 1 to 5 years were collected. Descriptive analyzes with frequency distribution and central tendency measurements were performed using the Excel 2010 program.

Frequent ingestion of animal fat and risks associated with consumption

Meat and meat products have high consumption rates in world population. Many of these products have a high content of fats that contribute to their sensory characteristics, but if consumed in excess they are associated with development of obesity, metabolic process, cardiovascular diseases, among others. Aim of this work was to quantify total lipid content in products derived from cured meat products, to correlate them with health problems associated with their consumption.

Neonates hospitalized due to Covid -19 in pará, amazon region of Brazil: a case series

Introduction: The novel coronavirus pandemic has specific outcomes according to the age group infected; however, perinatal and clinical data on neonates with COVID-19 pneumonia are still limited. Methods: Retrospective analysis of maternal data and clinical, laboratory and image characteristics of five newborns with COVID-19 confirmed by the Reverse TranscriptionPolymerase Chain Reaction of pharyngeal swab. Information was obtained from electronic medical records. Data analysis was performed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 25.0.

Comparative characterization of the antioxidant activity of tropical pulps and fruits commercialized in the ver-o-peso market, Belém, pará, Brazil

Objetivo: Caracterizar em função comparativa, a diferença do potencial antioxidante entre fruta tropicais in natura e minimamente processadas, comercializadas no Mercado do Ver-o-Peso, Belém, Pará, Brasil. Métodos: Estudo obsrvacional, transversal, de natureza analítica quantitativa, realizado no ano de 2019. A determinação da atividade antioxidante foi analisada em espectrofotômetro. Effectiveness of center of excellence campaign on neonatal nursing

Nurses have professional responsibility to update their knowledge and apply that knowledge to the care of patient .It is significant for the neonatal nurses to keep themselves updated about a wide range of Neonatal related topics that will enhance them to optimize their nursing care practice. Center of excellence (COE) campaign on Neonatal Nursing with the theme “Word cannot express the Joy of a new Life” has focused on the knowledge and practice of providing care to Neonates.

Halo-vest immobilization for odontoid fractures

Purpose: Odontoid fractures can heal with conservative treatments such as Halo vest immobilization (HVI) without surgery. We conducted this study to investigate the clinical outcome, effectiveness, and associated complications of HVI. Materials and Methods: Between 2012 and 2019, a total of 36 patients with upper cervical spine fractures were admitted to our department and treated with HVI. Sixteen of them, comprising 16,3%, had a fracture of the odontoid process. The cause of trauma was an accident with a motor vehicle.

Surgical management of unicystic ameloblastoma: conservative or radical approach: a systematic review

Unicystic ameloblastoma is a benign epithelial odontogenic neoplasm that represents about 5 to 15% of all intraosseous ameloblastomas, its biological behavior is related to its histopathological subtypes, with the mural variant being the most aggressive. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate in the scientific literature the effectiveness of the conservative and radical surgical approach in the treatment of unicysticameloblastomas. A systematic literature review was performed using the Science Direct, Embase, Cochrane Collaboration Library, and PubMed/MEDLINE databases.

Leptospirosis in vulnerable populations: a brief review

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis classified as a tropical neglected disease which mainly affects populations of peripheral areas and with low socioeconomic level. Disease epidemiology has socioenvironmental aspect and complex pathogeny, presenting expressive lethality in developing countries, emphasizing the tight connection with vulnerability. Disease has already been reported in vulnerable population such as indigenous communities, homeless and peripheral communities since these groups are exposed to main risk factors of disease.
