A novel hybrid methodolgy for evaluating the effectiveness of occupational health and safety practices

Occupational health and safety, especially with the legal arrangements enforced recently, has become a subject coming to the forefront more and more. Negligence in this regard may lead to serious material and moral results. Therefore, the fulfillment of necessary applications on the subject and the effectiveness of such applications are of great importance. In this study, the current occupational health and safety practices in the hospitality industry were examined with regards to their level of effectiveness.

Case study: 5 days a week working in assembly lines of automobile company results in work life balance and employee satisfaction

In the economic scenario that prevailed in 2012-13, when automobile manufacturing units all over India were facing a decline, it became important to reduce operational costs and find out various alternatives. This paper presents the 5 days working model that was undertaken at Tata Motors Limited, Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicle Plant situated at Lucknow after evaluating various options. This manufacturing plant started 5-days a week working model (with extended 1.5 hours from Mon to Fri). In the month of August 2016 this model successfully completed its 3rd year of working.

Safety training and observations reduces incidents – resulting in improved morale and productiveness of employees at work place

Employees do recognize the importance of safety training and think of it as necessary in a holistic atmosphere where the Organization focusses on Safety management led by Visible Safety Leadership. Systematic and periodic safety training is important for employees to understand the purpose of the training sessions, why it will be useful to them, and how incidents can be reduced at workplace. Also the Safety Observations made by Leadership team at various level of organization during shop floor rounds and following up these points for closure shows their concern for safety.

Socio-economic effects of uncompleted residential buildings in kumasi’s peri-urban settlements of Ghana, Africa

Cities are defined predominantly as physical structures. These physical structures are mainly characterized by residential facilities and buildings. Housing in many studies is considered as a significant determiner and tool for socio-economic development. Housing, particularly,quality housing for many households in developing economies is highly complex and capital intensive. Many households are constrained with several factors in the quest for housing developments. The results of these are uncompleted houses.

Eco-friendly management of stripe disease of barley (hordeum vulgare L.) by plant extracts and antagonistic fungi

A search for an environmentally safe and economically viable strategy for control of plant diseases has led to an increased use of plant based products in agriculture. To control the plant diseases, use of fungicides can impact the environment and human health. One method to eliminate these drawbacks is promoting induced protection. This study investigated the use of plants extracts and antagonistic fungi as a biological control of Drechslera graminea or as an inducer of protection in barley plant against the pathogen and also evaluated the possible mechanisms.

Effect of organic & inorganic sources of nutrients on soil physical properties, chemical properties and different nutrient status at harvest of the maize crop

The experiment was conducted in plot No. 126 of E block, Main Agricultural Research Station (MARS), University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during kharif, 2011. The geographical co-ordinates of the experimental site are 15026' N latitude and 75007'E longitude and an altitude of 678 m above mean sea level (MSL).The uptake of nutrients by maize increased significantly with incorporation of organic manures with RDF and the highest uptake was recorded in the treatment with PM.

Significant contribution of chemistry in ancient Indian science and technology

Ancient India, an important role in the development of chemistry was made by Ayurveda which used a variety of minerals. Science and technology in ancient and medieval India covered all the major branches of human knowledge and activities. In any, early civilization, metallurgy has remained an activity central to all civilizations from the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, to all other civilizations that followed. The Indus valley civilization was the earliest society, the story of early chemistry in India begins from here. Traces of cement had been ford in the era of Mohanjodaro.

Socio economic status of scheduled tribes in Mysuru District – Karnataka

The paper was aimed to assess the socio economic status of tribes of the Mysuru district of the Karnataka state. Three taluks of the Mysuru district were selected for the study based on their highly Schedule tribe populous status; H D Kote, Periyapatna and Hunsur. Primary survey of 500 households was carried out and the different socio economic statuses assessed were; caste, income, educational level, occupational structure, size of landholding, types of crop cultivation.

Vivekananda’s empowerment of women and liberation of hindus jatis (castes) from unjust hindus social and religious practices in nineteenth Century Bengal

This paper aims to explore the endeavors of Vivekananda in empowering women and liberating Hindus from caste prejudice that were prevailing in Nineteenth Century Bengali society. Vivekananda tries to elevate women by adopting the equality of women to men through the equal sharing of divine soul (atman). He highlights those Hindu sacred texts that revered women and adopted a skeptical approach towards those Hindu holy texts that bitterly criticize women.

This comparative study of sports practices from physical exercises and traditional games actually makes a contribution to current thinking giving understanding and perspective reflections tools that structured sports social courses in Francophone Black Africa, particularly those of women through different cultural areas.
