Validation of an analysis method of 13 organochlorine pesticide residues in bivalves "oyters" using quechers extraction and gaz chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry ``gc-ms/ms``

Pesticides are now recognized for their adverse effects on human health and the environment. The maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides authorized in the food chain are increasingly low. Thus high-performance analytical techniques are imposed for their identification and quantification. The objective of this study is to develop a multi-residual analysis method for organochlorine pesticides in bivalves by gas chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry.

The state and deforestation in the cross river region of Nigeria, 1852-1990: a historical review

Cross River region is home to some of the last stretches of virgin tropical rainforest in Nigeria. For nearly a century, this region had experienced exploitation, beginning with German expansion from the southwest Cameroon in 1852 into the region. The Germans established rubber and oil palm estates and exploited wild rubber within the region. After the Second World War, the British took over the region and introduced scientific forestry, oil palm, rubber and cocoa estates.

An economic model for adoption of resource conserving technologies

This manuscript presents an economic model for the adoption of resource conserving technologies by farmers. It discusses the theoretical model development relevant for studying technology adoption decisions based on established economic theories. The economic models demonstrate that farmers will select conserving technology without policy intervention; however the social optimum level of conservation will not be achieved. Therefore, government policy in the form of incentives will achieve the social optimal level of conservation.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases which if not controlled can cause serious complications. Aim: To predict the risk factors of hypoglycemia in type II diabetic subjects. Methodology: Fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), triglyceride (TG), serum urea, creatinine and microalbuminuria levels were evaluated.

Knowledge and consumption of protein in older adults: Opportunity for improvement

The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge regarding the importance of protein in diet and protein consumption patterns of elderly individuals living in the Southern United States. An anonymous convenience sample questionnaire was administered to out-patients over the age of 60 at an academic geriatric clinic setting. 79% of the respondents were Caucasians, approximately equally distributed between males and females. 19% of subjects were unsure whether they consumed enough protein. Only 5% were able to identify the current recommended daily allowance for protein.

The value of 18f-fluorodeoxyglucose and MRI DWI in underpinning cellular reprogramming in breast cancer

Background: The value of Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) derived from the MRI-DWI in differentiating benign from malignant breast cancer is scarce. The known FDG-avid breast cancer is well known and the potential of correlating the ADC and the degree of altered glucose metabolism evaluated by SUV max (FDG PET) is largely unknown. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine correlations between SUV max (18 F-FDG PET/CT) and ADC value (MRI DWI) in patients with primary breast carcinoma.

Management of impacted compound composite odontome and a palatally placed supernumerary tooth: A case report

Odontomas are the most common odontogenic tumors. They are usually asymptomatic and are often discovered during routine radiography. Eruption of an odontome into the oral cavity is rare. Odontomas are the most common odontogenic tumors. They are usually asymptomatic and are often discovered during routine radiography. Eruption of an odontome into the oral cavity is rare. Odontoma seems to result from budding of extra-odontogenic epithelial cells from the dental lamina.
