Cold tolerance in plants: a simple phenomenon with complex signaling

Plants face different abiotic stresses that reduce crop production worldwide. Cold stress is the main abiotic stress that reduce plant yield in hilly areas. Cold resistance in plants is considered to be an interesting phenomenon with complex signaling pathways. Tolerance to cold in plants is acquired by exposing them to a low non freezing temperature and involves extensive changes at molecular level. Understanding the molecular mechanism behind the cold resistance in plants can help us to develop more and more cold tolerant plants.

Roof-harvested rainwater is a potential source of bacteriaassociated diarrhea in a peri-urban southern uganda setting: cross-sectional study

Background: In 2011, 41 countries experienced water stress with approximately 24% of them depleting their freshwater supply. They had to rely on alternative water sources such as roof harvested rain water (RHRW) with uncertainty about its bacterial safety for human consumption as well as domestic use. Objectives: We aimed to study the presence of bacterial pathogens in roof-harvested rain water, their sero-typical identity as well as their antibiotic susceptibility profile.

Effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge of self administration of insulin inj. among diabetes mellitus patient

Today India is called the diabetes mellitus world capital. Some alarming diabetes statistics shows that there is one person in the world dying of diabetes every ten seconds. There will be two new diabetic cases in the world being identified every ten seconds. Therefore a need was assessed and the researcher was challenged to explore the knowledge of diabetes among diabetes mellitus patients. Quasi experimental approach was used with purposive sampling technique.

Relationship between yield and yield contributing characters in f5 population of chickpea (cicer Arietinum L.)

An experiment was conducted with four selection procedures of 20 progenies [PS(EF), PS(HY), SSD and RBP] of GJG 0719 x SAKI 9516 in F5 generation in Desi chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) to study the correlation and direct and indirect effects of different characters on seed yield. Correlation coefficients of seed yield per plant with various characters within F5 generation revealed that seed yield per plant exhibited significant and positive association at genotypic and phenotypic levels with number of pods per plant in all the selection procedures of the cross.
