Erythrocyte alterations of the laying hens subjected to thermal stress

The aim of this study was to identify erythrocyte changes resulting from heat stress in relation to different times of blood collection throughout the day. The experiment was carried out with 39 Rhode Island Red hens, in the initial laying phase, receiving standardized ad libitum feeding. The birds were placed in an environment of 20m2, with controlled temperature, divided into 2 distinct groups: Control Group with 12 animals at 16°C and Experimental Group with 27 animals at 30°C. Venipuncture took place at 7:00 am, 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Performance of pervious concrete under shear and bearing strengths

Pervious concrete is one of the materials with potential applications in the construction industry because it can help reduce environmental problems caused by conventional concrete, improve storm water management, and provide a low-impact development alternative. Pervious concrete has numerous advantages, including assisting with water filtering and lowering pollutants. The ability to reduce storm water runoff is the most important feature that attracts the attention of pervious concrete.

Main parasitic gastroenteritis in the neonatal phase of dogs and cats: review

The neonatal period within veterinary medicine is considered one of the main obstacles in health care. Therefore, pediatric care and support should be involved throughout the neonatal phase, from birth to the first 30 days of age. There are several important differences between neonate puppies and adult dogs and cats, such as anatomy and physiology, those differences play a vital role in the maintenance of animal well-beingand provide theman appropriate therapy with low toxicity.

Diagnostic challenges of oral leishmaniasis: unusual presentation of two cases

Leishmaniasis is a non-contagious infectious disease and has a broad spectrum of clinical forms. Isolated oral mucosal leishmaniasis is rare and challenges clinicians and pathologists. We report two cases of oral leishmaniasis manifested as ulcerative growth on the palate and tongue nodule. Histopathological analysis was performed and the final diagnosis was made with the visualization of amastigote-like structures.

Relation between functional mobility and muscle strength of the elderly in a public physical activities program

Objective: to verify the relationship between functional mobility and muscle strength in a group of elderly people participating in a public program of physical activities, called “Programa Mexa-se”, in the Joinville/SC city. Methods: This was a quantitative, correlational descriptive study, carried out in a non-probabilistic, intentional type. Included a random sample of 42 elderly people (27 women and 15 men), aged between 60 and 75 years, to whom two balance tests were applied: the Sit and Stand Test (TSL) and the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT).

Prediction of the behavior of encapsulated rollers in a hot taper rolling process of parabolic leaves

The automotive industry is increasingly demanding lean processes. In the heavy vehicles sector, new concepts are being sought for suspension leaf springs, with a particular focus on reduction in the vehicle mass. CAE simulation software has been used to support the design of new products and to update old designs with higher levels of confidence, thus reducing the development time and cost.

Use of topical clindamycin in the treatment of root surface in delayed teeth replantation – study in rats

This study aims to evaluate dentoalveolar repair after topical use of clindamycin as root surface treatment of replanted teeth. Fourteen Wistar rats had the right maxillary incisor extracted and stored dry. The periodontal ligament was removed chemically by immersion in 1% sodium hypochlorite. Specimens were distributed into an experimental group (immersion in clindamycin solution for 5 minutes) and a control group (no topical antibiotic treatment) and then replanted.
