ARM 7 based voice controlled wheelchair and patient monitoring system using GSM

This paper describes about the controlling of wheelchair by means of human voice and patient monitoring using GSM. In earlier, people use joysticks to control the powered wheelchairs. Wheelchairs with the standard joystick interface are unable to control by many people. Speech recognition is a prominent technology which can give an alternative, people to interact with machines especially those who are quadriplegics. We have resolved the disabled problems by implementing voice control interfacing, over a microphone for the wheelchair.

The influence of grain size and calcination conditions on the compressive strength of the Mahina lime- rich brick clays

Lime-rich clays from Mahina, Northwest part of Tanzania were used in this work. Chemical analysis showed that Mahina clays contain considerable amounts of CaO (16.25%) and CaCO3 (25.41%). Mineralogical characterization of raw materials was done by XRD and DTA both of which revealed the presence of kaolinite, montimorillonite, quartz, calcite, feldspar and minor accessories. Bricks constructed from different grain size (63, 125, 300, 450 and 600 μm) were each calcined at 950 oC for 30 and 60 minutes. New phases identified were Gehlenite, wollastonite, anorthite and calcium aluminate.

Clear cell adenocarcinomas of the ovary– an interesting case series

Clear cell adenocarcinomas of the ovary account for less than 5% of all ovarian carcinomas (David S P Tan and Stan Kaye, 2007). They constitute approximately 3.7–12.1% of all epithelial ovarian carcinomas. A retrospective study was conducted on all the ovarian carcinomas received in the Department of Pathology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute for the past 3 years. Of the total 53 cases of epithelial ovarian carcinomas, all the Clear Cell Carcinomas (CCC) were identified. The clinico pathological parameters were noted from the case records.

Carcinoma of the male breast – a rare entity

Carcinoma in the male breast is not very common, the incidence being less than 1% of the incidence in women. We present the case of a 56 year male patient, who came with the complaints of swelling in the left nipple with an adjacent sinus tract, discharging blood stained pus. The histopathological diagnosis of a low grade, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma was given with involvement of the nipple. ER, PR and Her 2 neu were positive.

Effects of co-payment on drug rational use and cost recovery at governmental primary health care in Gaza

The irrational use of drugs leads to wasting of resources and serious health hazards as well. This study aims to ascertain the effect of co-payment on drugs consumption and also to assess drugs’ cost recovery at the governmental primary health care sector in the Gaza Strip. A descriptive, analytical, cross sectional design using a retrospective multi-stage sampling approach were utilized with a sample of 1620 prescriptions randomly selected from 15 PHC clinics; 108 prescriptions from each designated clinic.

Seasonal variations and forecasting in wholesale prices of rice (paddy) in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh

The analysis of trends, seasonal variations and in market prices of rice in Guntur district and Andhra Pradesh and forecast the same for the period 1990-91 to 2009-10 collected from various published statistical bulletins. The seasonal variations in market prices and 12 months moving average method was used to construct the seasonal indices and Box-Jenkins model was used to forecast the future prices. The annual average wholesale price trends of rice from 1990-91 to 2009-10 has shown a significant increase over the years in both Andhra Pradesh and Guntur market.

Productivity performance of chemical industry in Tamil Nadu during the post-reform period

The foremost purpose of this paper is to explore the factor productivity of chemical industry in Tamilnadu during the Post-reform period from 1990-91 to 2009-10. The study established that, the labour and capital productivity is very low during the post-reform period. In conclusion of this paper implies that to improve the productivity and reduce the variations in productivity of chemical industry in Tamilnadu. Thus, government has to frame separate policy for stabilizing the growth of chemical industries in Tamilnadu.

Pesticide use pattern and awareness of pesticides users with special reference to potato growers in Nepal

This study was carried out from September, 2008 to May, 2009 to explore awareness of pesticide users in special reference to potato growers on pesticide safety labels, pesticide handling and application practices that might potentially expose them to chemical hazards. Data was based on a stratified random sample of 471 pesticide practitioners (potato growers, field workers, extension officers, and pesticide dealers) across Nepal’s’ major potato production zones using structured interview schedules.

Study of some virulence factors and antimicrobial resistance in coagulase-negative staphylococci isolated from newborns in mansoura hospitals

A prospective study was performed at NICUs of three Mansoura hospitals in Egypt over a period of 18 months from March 2011 to August 2012. The three NICUs are participants in Egyptian Neonatal Network (EGNN).344 newborns were diagnosed as suspected sepsis. 58.57% of 140 positive blood cultures were due to Gram positive pathogens. Staphylococcus epidermidis was the most common species (33 isolate), followed by S. haemolyticus (20). Antimicrobial resistance could have a substantial impact on healthcare by adversely affecting mor¬bidity and mortality.
