A comparative study of antimicrobial activity of certain essential oils versus commercial antibiotics

Drugs resistant microbes is a serious problem. As safe alternatives herbal medicines are discovered certain essential oils (non antibiotic substance) have shown fighting potential against drug resistant pathogens Antimicrobial activity of four different essential oils i.e. Tea tree, eucalyptus, menthol and camphor have been evaluated and were found susceptible to both gram positive i.e. Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative bacteria i.e. Escherichia coli. The antimicrobial susceptibility in each essential oils and commercial antibiotics i.e.

Effect of various parameters on removal of chromium (vi) using pseudomonas aeruginosa 4442

Industrialization and human activities makes intense impact on the environment by disposing industrial effluent containing heavy metals. Remedial procedures using biomaterials, such as, bacteria, algae, fungi, yeast, and agricultural waste biomass are regarded as a cost-effective technique for the treatment of high volume and low concentration of complex waste water containing heavy metals. In current research a microbial remedy is suggested to treat the chromium bearing effluent which includes application of bacterial culture i.e.

Microcephaly in the Brazilian northeast: investigation of possible correlated factors

The Brazilian northeast presented an outbreak of children born with Microcephaly that in August 2015 through April 2016 (Brasília, 2015). Microcephaly is a congenital anomaly associated with brain damage. The Zika virus has, until now, been indicated as the main agent causing these anomalies. This work is a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study of the retrospective type. As data source, the database of the Epidemiological Surveillance Rapid Response of the Ministry of Health was used based on the notifications made at the biggest maternity hospital in the state.

Clinical pharmacology of azithromycin in infants and children

Azithromycin is the most active macrolide antibiotic. It is an azalide antibiotic. Azithromycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding reversibly to 50S ribosomal subunity. Azithromycin is bacteriastatic, but may be bactericidal, at high concentrations. This antibiotic is used for treating respiratory tract infections caused by common pathogens of community-acquired pneumoniae.

Use of learning games in university extension: teaching about zoonosis and pets care

The proximity between humans and pets favors the spread of zoonosis, especially when there is limited knowledge about disease prevention and about the transmission cycles of zoonosis, as well as the lack of importance of the necessary care for pets. In this sense, this study aimed to promote health education through reflection on zoonosis and the necessary care for pets, through the University Extension. The methodology was based on the use of learning games that were applied to students of municipal and state public basic education in the municipality of Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia, Brazil.

Analysis of levels and determinants of technical efficiency of wheat producing farmers: the case of east Gojame Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia

This paper examines the technical efficiency of smallholder wheat producers in three districts of the Misrak Gojam zone of Amhara region, Ethiopia. Using two stage stratified simple random sampling design, 210 wheat producing households were randomly selected and studied. Cobb-Douglas Stochastic Frontier Model was fitted to estimate farm level technical efficiency and the associated efficiency scores. The analysis of technical efficiency determents was conducted employing both Maximum likelihood (ML) and quantile regression techniques (QR).

Allelic variants of the cyp2d6: *4, *6 and *10 in quilombola community, Maranhão, Brazil

Brazil has the largest blackpopulation outside Africa and the second largest in the world, surpassed only by Nigeria. More than 40% of the Brazilian population corresponds to Afro-descendants. Genotyping of the CYP2D6 gene may serve as a predictive tool for the pharmacological effectiveness and / or toxicity of various drugs. However, due to the high cost of genetic testing, it is necessary to know the population frequencies in order to facilitate the development of clinical and laboratory strategies.

Consumer acceptance of a product from pacu carcasses submitted to different processing techniques: an approach to transform waste into wealth

The objective is to elaborate a food product developed from Pacu carcass subjected to different processing techniques that may contain healthy components and that is environmentally correct. Fish stocks were developed from three different products, here named as in natura carcass, smoked carcass, and carcass residual biomass. The chemical composition, colorimetric and microbiological profiles, and sensory analysis were evaluated in these stocks. The sensory analysis was based on the evaluation of 66 trained tasters concerning sensory attributes and consumers’ acceptance.

Agroecological cultivation of vegetables in a garden at dom josé tupinambá da frota state School, Sobral, Ceará, Brazil

Coriander and arugula are fast-growing, short-cycle herbaceous leafy vegetables. Organic fertilizers increase plant yields by providing nutrients, improving soil physical and biological properties. The objective of this work was to carry out a practical experience of agroecology at Dom José Tupinambá da Frota State College, Sobral, Ceará, Brazil. The study was conducted in a garden in the courtyard of the College. Coriander cultivation was carried out from August 24 to September 19, 2018, in three beds prepared with manual hoe. The total area of each flowerbed (5 m x 0.8 m) is 4 m2.

Negative results associated with medicines and quality of life in multiple sclerosis

Increased morbimortality related to non-transmissible diseases and pharmacotherapy required a new attitude of the pharmacist and greater involvement in the prevention of negative clinical outcomes associated with the use (or non-use) medicines. For patients with chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), the influence of treatment on quality of life (QOL) is acrucial determinant during therapy. The aim of the study was to identify the impact of NRM on QL of MS patients. Method: Cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study of MS patients.
