Since centuries ago turmeric (also known as Curcuma Longa) has been used as an ancient spice in food and has remained popular in most southasian countries. Turmeric belongs in the ginger family and is a spice derived from the root of the curcuma longa plant. Thus, curcumin (also known as curcuminoids or phenolic compounds) is the active ingredient in turmeric powder or turmeric essential oils, and is known to communicate with 160 mechanisms and pathways in the body to support a wide range of processes, including brain health, cardiovascular health, tissue health.

Variations in the prevalence of isolated human papillomavirus genotype in cervical cancer specimens: a review

The uterine cervix represents a pathologically important part of the uterus because of the high prevalence of cervical cancer worldwide. The epithelium of the cervix can be infected by sexually transmitted oncogenic types of human papillomavirus (HPV). These virus cause persistent infection of the cervical epithelial cells and this leads to viral cytopathic changes associated with atypia (koilocytic atypia) in the infected cells. This is referred to as squamous intraepithelial lesions which can be low grade or high grade depending on the severity of koilocytic atypia.

Hypertensive Elderly: Evaluation Of Functional Capacity In The Family Health Strategy

Objective: To analyze the functional capacity of hypertensive elderly assisted in the Family Health Strategy. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative research with 359 hypertensive elderly patients. Instruments were used to characterize the elderly as to demographic characteristics and life habits, basic activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living and advanced activities of daily living. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee.

Knowledge and barriers to uptake of cervical cancer screening among women at koginga fish landing site in homa bay county, Western Kenya

Background: Cancer of the cervix remains a major public health problem among women worldwide especially in developing countries and in Kenya, there are about 2,454 new cases and 1,676 annual deaths. The potential areas of new cases include fish landing sites, where there are high prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases due to promiscuity. However, knowledge and barriers to cervical cancer screening in the fish landing sites have not been assessed despite the vulnerability of the population.

Phase 1 trial of autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation in patients with spinal cord injury

Introduction: A total of 18 patients, with complete motor deficits and paraplegia caused by thoracic and lumbar spine trauma without muscle atrophy or psychiatric problems, were included into this study. Materials and Methods: The bone marrow was aspirated from the anterior iliac crest under local anesthesia and the mononuclear fraction was isolated by density gradient method. At least 750 million mononuclear-enriched cells, suspended in 2 mL of saline, were infused intrathecally.
