Information and communication technology (ICT) support systems for teaching and learning physics in selected secondary schools in ELEME local government area

The present work examined the application of information and communication technology (ICT) support systems for teaching and learning physics in selected secondary schools in Eleme local government area of Nigeria. It applied descriptive survey method, oral interview and observation techniques to study the level of available ICT infrastructure, the qualifications and skills of Physics teachers, experience of students, ability to use ICT facilities for teaching and learning, benefits of use of ICT in such education system and perceived hindrances to its applications.

Determinants of malnutrition among children

Malnutrition has become an urgent global health issue, with under nutrition killing or disabling millions of children each year. Malnutrition also prevents millions more from reaching their full intellectual and productive potential. In children, severe malnutrition accounts for approximately 1 million deaths annually (Trehan, I et al, 2013). Malnutrition causes children to be more susceptible to illness, and results in long-term effects on children’s development and health.

Design modification and field performance of two row maize planter

Mechanization in maize crop is increasing in Pakistan day by day due to its good cooking oil and flour quality. The aim of this study was to modify and develop two row maize planter with locally available materials which ultimately decreased its cost. After modification, a field experiment was conducted at Crop Physiology Research Area of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad to evaluate the efficiency of two row maize planter.

Nash equilibrium – A strategy of games theory

The paper presents an overview of the concept of Nash Equilibrium and its importance in application of games theory. Beginning with the history of Nash Equilibrium, its relevance in understanding and analyzing the outcome of strategic interactions in decision-making is elucidated with examples. Prisoners’ Dilemma, Coordination game, network traffic, competition game, matching pennies, stag hunt - are some of few strategic concepts/games that exemplify the Nash Equilibrium and help in decision-making.

Inhibitory potentials of selected medicinal plants against biofilm forming bacteria

The current study was an attempt at elucidating the inhibitory potentials of certain plants against biofilm forming bacteria. Plants chosen for analysis were Leucusaspera, Cassia alata, Cadabafruticosa, Carica papaya, Terminaliachebula, Barringtoniaacutangula, Wrightiatinctoria and Eupatorium triplinerve. In this study biofilm forming bacteria were isolated from pipelines and water filter candles fromin and around Chennai. Biofilm forming bacteria was identified by Microtitre plate assay. Further confirmation of bacterial species was obtained by biochemical tests and 16S rRNA analysis.

A study on exposure towards cloud computing in India

The Cloud is not about technology, it is the abstraction of technology for delivering pure services. The Cloud has finally led to the civilization of services because, in the case of Cloud computing, what you pay for is what you get. The reliability of Cloud services is so much greater that, on those rare occasions when it's not perfect, it is considered newsworthy. This paper acknowledges that “A powerful set of catalytic forces is accelerating the speed of social change throughout the world.

Legislative and policy aspects of hospital waste

National legislation is the basis for improving health-care waste practices in any country. It establishes legal controls and permits the national agency responsible for the disposal of health-care waste, usually the ministry of health, to apply pressure for their implementation. The ministry of environment or national environmental protection agency may also be involved; there should be a clear designation of responsibilities before the law is enacted. The law should be complemented by a policy document, and by technical guidelines developed for implementation of the law.

Bioengineered human kidney for toxicity assessment

Kidney toxicity is one of the biggest threats that causes failure in preclinical safety cases which later gives rise to Nephrotoxicity and is promoted by lots of pharmaceutical companies. We are one the verge of requiring pre- clinical tests and processes so that that we can get more candidates and innovate for them but unfortunately a competent drug has seemed to be more expensive and needs more time. The progression of an innovative new process seems to be on the horizon which is the development of a long lasting 3D human kidney which can also test nephrotoxicity.

Understanding social and legal impacts of Nirbhaya movement, India (2012)

Protests… peaceful and violent erupted across India after the brutal gang rape of a young girl in a moving bus in the heart of India’s capital, Delhi.
