Floating population of diaphorina citri in different varieties of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) produced in commercial orchard

Brazil is one of the largest citrus producers in the world and also the largest exporter of orange juice. At present, Huanglogbing is the main disease of citriculture, due to its rapid spreading and provoked damages. The spread of the disease occurs through the psyllid Diaphorina citri. The main objective of monitoring population fluctuation is to detect or determine prematurely the incidence of the pest.

Emulsification properties of acacia senegal gum, glucuronic acid and glucuronates

The present study compares the emulsifying properties of Acacia senegal gum, glucuronic acid (arabic acid) and glucuronates (arabate salts) in oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. Emulsifying properties of each hydrocolloid were evaluated in terms of emulsion droplet-size distribution. Emulsion of Na, Ca and Mg glucuronates show stability until 3 days while Acacia senegal gum emulsion forms multiple peaks after 3 days and completely separates after 7 days.

Phytosocyologic characterization and associated sediment in a mangrove area with impacts of oil spill, Todos os santos bay, Bahia, Brazil

This article presents the phytosociological characteristics of the São Paulo River estuary, northeastern part of Todosos Santos Bay, a mangrove area with impacts of oil spill as well as the physical-chemical composition of the plant of individuals associated with sediments. For qualitative, phytosociological research, the multiple plot method was applied, with a total of five 20x25 m2 plots.

Physicochemical characterization and bioactive potential of momordica charantia L

Interest has grown to evaluate the use of underutilized plants, and plant by-products as sources of food ingredients to ameliorate the food security problem in the world. In this context, the aim of this work was to describe and quantify the main nutritional and bioactive compounds present in an unconventional and underutilized food fruit (Momordica charantia) found in southern Brazil. The physicochemical analyzes and antioxidant activity of peel and pulp fruit were performed.

Trends of production of fish in Assam

India is the 2ndlargest producer of fish in the world, it produces 90.40 lakh tonnes of fish in 2012-13.Fishery resource generate employment for about 14 million people either directly or indirectly involved in the agricultural and industrial sectors of fish production, processing, ornaments and related activities. In India the production of fish is done in the oceans, rivers, tributaries, ponds tanks and derelict water bodies of Assam, Orissa, Tripura, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh.

Zinc content and phytomass accumulation in green corn fertilized with zinc sulphate

The low levels of zinc (Zn) in Brazilian semi-arid soil is one of the factors that most affect the yield and nutritional quality of the maize. The aim was to evaluate the influence of Zn doses via root and leaf on the production of phytomass and Zn contents in leaves and grains of green corn growing in alkaline soil. Two experiments were carried out under field conditions, in a randomized block design, with four blocks. In the first experiment five doses of Zn (0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5 and 10.0 kg ha-1) via soil, were tested.

Vitamin d has an aetiological role in dementias; myth or fact?

Vitamin D is produced through the cutaneous transformation of 7-dehydrocholesterol by UVB-irradiation with multiple neurotrophic and neuroprotective functions, while regulating calcium-mediated neuronal excitotoxicity. Vitamin D acts mainly through binding to intracellular Vitamin D receptor (VDR) with a possible involvement of vitamin D receptor (VDR) and vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP). This is a review of evidence for the aetiological role of vitamin D in dementias and other neurological disorders.

Correlations between growth and production variables of two coffee cultivars fertirrigated by microirrigation

This work aimed to address the correlations between growth and production variables of coffee cultivars fertigated by microirrigation. The experiment was conducted in experimental area of the Technical Irrigation Centerof the State University of Maringá. The coffee seedlings were planted at a spacing of 2.0 meters between rows and 1.0 meters between plants. The localized drip irrigation system was used so that the drippers were installed at 0.2 meters from the plants and were 0.40 m apart at the planting line and 2 m apart.

Effect of environmental enrichment on the behavior of betta fish exposed to incident sunlight

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of using environmental enrichment on the behavior of Betta fish exposed to sunlight. For the experiment, 36 adult females of Betta fish were used. The study was carried out in a completely randomized design (DIC) with three treatments, with each fish defined as one repetition, totaling 12 repetitions in each treatment. Each aquarium represented a treatment, being (1) Without environmental enrichment; (2) Stacked stones and (3) Stacked stones and aquatic plants.
