Comparative assessment of various air pollutants at Jabalpur by air quality index

Degradation of air quality at the city Jabalpur has been estimated by Air Quality Index (AQI). The method used to measure quality of air with respect to national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). Through the study of two years, the level of air pollutants (O3, CO, NO2, PM2.5 and PM10) was observed. As a result it was found that; O3, CO, PM2.5 and PM10 shown better AQI in 2015 than 2014 whereas, NO2 shows reverse AQI i.e. good AQI result in 2014. However, all the air pollutants didn’t cross its standard.

Detecting climate change through rainfall pattern variation in taipei and colombo city

There are growing evidences indicating that climate change is one of the top issues facing the world today. Extreme climatic events such as typhoons, heavy storms and droughts are becoming more frequent and destructive. It is important to realize that climate change will affect the future rainfall pattern which is directly related to the water balance, hence leading to water related issues, consequently threatening local livelihoods. The historical rainfall data for Colombo City, Sri Lanka and Taipei City, Taiwan, are compared in this study.

Organoleptic properties of chikki developed from rice flake flour and figs

The present study was conducted to prepare a food product in form of chikkis with rice flakes flour and figs. The chikkis weight was 100gms after the whole processing was carried out.The chikki is high in IRON, CALCIUM and PHOSPHORUS required by human body for supporting metabolism and healthy bones. This chikki could be helpful in treating/managing the Iron deficiency Anemia & Bone disorders such as Osteoporosis, Rickets, Hypocalcaemia, Arthritis etc. This can be helpful for poor people as well whose nutritional needs are not completed with food daily.

Variance estimation using linear combination of non conventional measures and coefficient of kurtosis

In the present study we propose new modified ratio estimators for estimating the population variance by using auxiliary information of non conventional location measures, non conventional measures of dispersion and coefficient of kurtosis. The properties associated with the proposed estimators are assessed by mean square error and compare with the existing estimators. By this comparison we conclude that our proposed estimators are more efficient than existing estimators. Numerical study is also provided to support the theoretical results.

Study of enones as novel aldose reductase inhibitors

Aldose reductase is an NADPH-dependent oxidoreductase that catalyzes the reduction of glucose to sorbitol, the first step in Aldose polyol pathway and this enzyme has been implicated in the development of late diabetic complications . As a consequence, inhibition of this enzyme has gained therapeutic significance and has been the drug target. Conjugated enone moiety present in natural product curcumin shows excellent inhibitory activity for aldose reductase and along these lines we have synthesised a series of conjucated enones and tested their activity.
