Diseases and memories of cures among slaves in southwestern bahia- Brazil: neurological and rheumatologic diseases

This article aims to present the research about diseases that attacked the slaves’ health in the 19th century, in the Imperial Vila da Vitória, nowadays the city of Vitória da Conquista, located in the Southwestern Bahia, Brazil as well as memories of techniques of cures, plants and herbs in order to cure the sick body. One used is the quanti-quanlitative and the methodology of documental kind, classified as exploratory and descriptive. The sources are 460 inventories, in which there are 2,159 slaves, being described as sick people.

Development of cereal bars using bacuri pulp flour for sportsmen: nutritional composition and sensory acceptability

The objective of this study is to develop and analyze the sensorial acceptability of cereal bars using bacuri pulp targeting the sports public. Formulations using different concentrations of bacuri flour were prepared: F1 (0%), F2 (10%) and F3 (20%). The formulations were submitted to microbiological analysis, centesimal composition and vitamin C. In the sensorial analysis, the attributes were evaluated with 107 athletes from Campo Grande - MS. Statistical analyses using the SPSS software were performed, considering p<0.05.

Organic food intake effects in human health

The purpose hereof was to systematically evaluate the organic food intake effects in human health through controlled clinical studies. Articles with the descriptions organic food, human and human intervention study were included. The articles were selected by their titles and abstracts, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. At the end of the analysis, ten studies were used. The organic food intake presented positive effect on human health.

Development of frozen yogurtlactose-free plus campomanesia sp

Ice creams are globally accepted because of their palatability. However, the number of lactose intolerants is increasing. Therefore, the demand for products in this segment also increases. Guavira is a native fruit from Brazilian Cerrado rich in antioxidants and with potential for inclusion in various food products. Thus, the aim of this study was to elaborate guavira-frozen yogurt lactose-free, expanding products for individuals with lactose intolerance. The product was developed through a factorial design, centesimal composition, and microbiological and sensorial analysis.

Investigations on biochemical components of aloe ferox mill leaf extracts and their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties

The present investigations were carried out to understand the phytochemical screening, antioxidant, anti inflammatory and biochemical properties of Aloe ferox leaf extract by using various organic solvents. The powdered leaf material was subjected to extraction of phytochemicals by soxhlet method with chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. The phytochemical result shows that the active compounds presence in high concentration, such as phytosterols, lactones, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, tannins and glycosides.

The effect of platelet-rich plasma in the treatment of tendonitis and desmitis in horses: report of eight clinical cases

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effect of autologous PRP, obtained by manual method with double centrifugation, and applied by intralesional ultrasound-guided injection in horses’s tendons and ligaments. Eight horses were included in this study: four horses with tendonitis and four horses with suspensory ligament desmitis. Tendinitis and desmitis were diagnosed following clinical and ultrasonographic evaluation. Three applications of PRP were performed every 15 days.

In-situ gel for nasal drug delivery

Oral drug delivery is the most desirable, preferred and convenient route for the administration of a drug, whenever systemic effects are intended, However, low oral bioavailability of some actives due to extensive hepatic metabolism and gastrointestinal degradation has prompted the search for more effective routes for their systemic delivery. Transmucosal routes of drug delivery (the mucosal linings of the nasal, rectal, vaginal and buccal cavity), parenteral route and transdermal route offer distinct advantages over peroral administration.

Adiposity, metabolic parameters and c-reactive protein in patients at cardiovascular risk

Background: Several studies have shown that C-reactive protein is positively associated with the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), but the association of the concentration of C reactive protein with lipid and glycemic profile is still controversial. This study aimed to determine high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) concentrations in patients undergoing angiography and its correlation with BMI, WC and biochemical parameters.

Efficacy of aqueous extracts of rhizophora mangle l. bark in the management of meloidogyne incognita on okra

Meloidogyne incognita (MI) contributes to yield losses in okra worldwide. Rhizophora mangle (RM) has been used in the management of insects, but not on MI. A pot experiment was laid out in completely randomized design to determine the effects of aqueous bark extracts of RM and carbofuran on MI-infected okra. Meloidogyne incognita-infected okra plants were treated with RM aqueous extracts of 20%, 10%, 5% weight per volume (w/v) and carbofuran 3 kg. a.i./ha one week after inoculation (WAI). Data were collected on growth parameters fortnightly till 8 WAI.

Effect of social support on breastfeeding self-efficacy

Mothers might need social support in early period after childbirth and who have adequate social support adapt to breastfeeding easier. This descriptive study aimed to determine the effect of breastfeeding education on social support and breastfeeding self-efficacy in Turkish women. The research data were collected in Antalya Training and Research Hospital between February and May 2016. Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Short Form Scale was used for data collection.
