Antimicrobial properties of chitosan- A review

Chitosan is a versatile hydrophic polysaccharide derived from chitin, has a broad antimicrobial spectrum to which gram negative, Gram positive bacteria and fungi are highly susceptible. The applicability of the chitosan is directly with its physicochemical features. Without affect its chemical properties different process of extraction and purification can be caused changes in deactylation degree, molecular weight, thermal stability and crystalline level in the chitosan molecule.

Studies on urban air pollution and its relation to epidermal Structure of ziziphus mauritiana in rewa city

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of urban air pollution (air pollutants SPM, RSPM, SO2 and NOX) on epidermal structure of Ziziphus mauritiana growing along the road sides in Rewa city. The monitored values of SPM, RSPM, SO2 and NOX at the sampling sites clearly illustrates that the ambient air of Rewa city is primarily deteriorated by particulate matters (SPM, RSPM) and least by gaseous pollutants (SO2, NOx). The light microscopic studies of Ziziphus mauritiana leaves exposed to urban air pollution showed marked alterations in the micro-morphological parameters.

Involvement of almajiris in violent crimes in sokoto metropolis, Sokoto state Nigeria

This paper focused on the involvement of Almajiris in violent crimes in Sokoto Metropolis. The word 'Almajiri (student) is singular' derived from the Arabic word 'Almuhajir' emigrant. It refers to an Islamic method of acquiring and memorizing the Glorious Qur'an in Hausa/Fulani community where boys at their tender ages are sent out by their parents or guardians to the far and near villages, towns and cities for the search of Qur'anic education under an Islamic scholar called Mallam. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated for the study.

Brazilian typical food with potential to improve lipid profile

Tapioca is a food produced from the cassava roots and is commonly used in Brazil to prepare many products. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of tapioca on the metabolic profile of Wistar rats. Twenty female rats were divided in G1: control group (n=10) and G2: treated group (n=10). The treated group received tapioca flour mixed to the rat food for 45 days, and the control group received commercial rat food. Body weight was evaluatedthree times a week. Blood samples were collected to evaluate glycemia, total cholesterol (TC), LDL-c, HDL-c, and triglycerides (TG).

Prevalence of sarcopenia, body composition and energy-protein intake of elderly from an integrated continuing care unit in Brazil

Sarcopenia is characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass and strength or function during the aging process, and has been recognized as a relevant factor for the occurrence of health problems. The objective of this study was to verify the prevalence of sarcopenia, the body composition and the energy-protein intake in hospitalized elderly. The studied elderly were admitted to the Integrated Continuing Care Unit of a Brazilian hospital.

Emergence of gracilacus species as one of the key plant-parasitic nematodes associated with cassava in east senatorial district, rivers state, Nigeria

The type, distribution and population of plant-parasitic nematodes on crops change over time and space. It is pertinent to know their current status to ensure effective management. A survey was carried out to determine the occurrence and population of plant-parasitic nematodes associated with cassava in the East Senatorial District of Rivers State, Nigeria. Multi-stage random sampling method was used to collect soil and root samples from 56 farms growing cassava in monoculture across four Local Government Areas.

Nutritional aspects in the accident cerebral vascular: a cross-sectional study

Aims: To analyze the nutritional aspects, to characterize the socio-demographic profile, to categorize the types of Cerebral Vascular Accident most common in this population, relating to the life habits, comorbidities and nutritional risk in which the patient is. Methods: Descriptive cross - sectional study of a quantitative exploratory character with patients over 18 years of age diagnosed with stroke admitted to the adult emergency unit of a reference hospital in the northern region of Ceará between August and November / 2016.

A study to assess the impact of technology basded approach to improve knowledge on health promoting behaviour towards maternal hypothyroidism among antenatal mothers with hypothyroidism

Background: Thyroid hormones are important in the development of the fetus and the placenta as well as in maintaining maternal wellbeing. Thyroid disorders are common in the population as a whole, particularly in women, and therefore are common during pregnancy and the puerperium. Biochemical derangements of thyroid function tests are present in approximately 2.5–5% of pregnant women. In addition to adverse obstetrical outcomes; maternal hypothyroidism is associated with adverse neonatal outcomes.

Ion Selective Electrodes for Potentiometric Determination of Cyclizine in Its Pharmaceutical Dosage Form

The two ion-pair complex of Cyclizine (Cy) with sodium tetraphenyl borate (TPB) and Phosphotungstic acid (PT) was prepared and used for the construction of Cy-selective electrode. The electrode based on the Cy-PT ion-pair complex has a lower detection limit of 1.5 x 10-7 M in a linear concentration range of 3.5 x 10-7 – 1.0 x 10-2 M with a slope of calibration curve of 50.5 mV/decay. The selectivity coefficient was calculated with separate solution method dictates the high selectivity of the electrode over other tested ions.

Trinexapac-ethyl action in the germination process of varieties of endive

The use of plant regulators in agriculture is a reality. This work aimed at studying the action of trinexapac-ethyl in the germination process of endive varieties. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 3x4 factorial scheme using three cultivars of Endive: Endive cv. Radiche (ER); Cv. Sugar Loaf (ESL) and cv. Catalan (EC); with four doses of trinexapac-ethyl: Zero ml L-1 (control); 0.033 ml L-1; 0.066 ml L-1, and 0.133 m L-1, and four replicates.
