Ultrastructural changes in the adult male accessory reproductive glands of Chrysocoris purpureus (WESTW.) (hemiptera:pentatomidae) IN relation to mating

Electron microscopic studies on the adult male accessory reproductive glands of Chrysocoris purpureus insects have revealed presence of a single layer of columnar epithelium, characterized by the multi shaped endoplasmic reticulum, polymorphic golgi bodies and vesicles. The male accessory reproductive gland before mating indicates its apocrine mode of secretion and its relative quantity of secretion appears to be higher than that of the glands after mating.

Danda nata- An intangible visual cultural heritage of western Odisha

This Intangible culture is the counterpart of culture, which is tangible or touchable. It includes song, music, drama, skills, crafts, and the other parts of culture that can be recorded but cannot be touched and interacted with/out a vehicle for the culture. This intangible cultural heritage is handed down from generation to generation and is constantly recreated by communities and groups in response to their environment, their interaction with nature and their history. Ritual performances also come under the preview of Intangible Cultural Heritage of India.

New facilities to study synthesis of the elements in stars

One of the great successes of stellar evolution theory was the explanation of the origin of all elements. Fusion in the early universe produced hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium and boron, the first 5 elements in the periodic table. Other elements, from carbon to iron, were formed by fusion reactions in the cores of stars. The fusion process produces energy, which keeps the temperature of a stellar core high to keep the reaction rates high. Fusion of elements with mass numbers greater than 60 uses up more energy than is produced by the reaction.

Allele Mining in Crop Improvement

Development of superior and high yielding varieties made possible by accumulation of beneficial alleles from vast plant genetic resources existing worldwide. Still, a significant portion of these beneficial/ superior alleles were not used as these were left behind during evolution and domestication. Introducing novel alleles from wild crop plants to cultivated varieties have clearly demonstrated that certain alleles and their combinations potentially make dramatic changes in trait expression.

Preparation and characterization of fluorine doped SnO2 thin film by vacuum coating technique

Tin dioxide thin films are prepared by vacuum coating method using powders made by sol-gel method. The powder doped using different percentages of fluorine, and the electric and optic properties of thin films formed from these are studied. X-ray diffraction pattern studies confirm improvement of crystalline nature as the percentage of fluorine is increased from 0-10wt %. The crystalline size is increased from 6.64nm to 66 nm by adding 6 wt% of fluorine.

A proposed algorithm for circle detection using prewitt edge detection technique

This paper presents method to detect and accurately locate circle objects in digital image. The propose method consists of two steps. In first step the edge pixels are extracted using Prewitt edge detection algorithm and then a noise removal process is run to remove the non-circle edge points. The second step, Circle Hough Transform (CHT) is applied to detect circle from the digital image.

Electronic information sources and services at SGPGIMS, Lucknow: A survey

This study describes briefly a survey conducted at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) Lucknow with the objectives to identify different types of Electronic Information Sources and Services, to find out its awareness and difficulty in use, to examine frequency of use of these resources, purpose to use the E-resources among the library users, reliability of E-resources etc. Data were collected through questionnaire distributed among the 10% of the registered users.

Molecular diagnostic value of pneumococcal pneumonia among Egyptian children

Pneumonia is the most common invasive pneumococcal disease; however, only a small portion of cases can be confirmed by conventional techniques. The present study aimed at comparing the molecular detection of Streptococcal pneumoniae by the standard blood culture in community-acquired pneumonia among Egyptian children. Standard blood culture of Streptococcal pneumoniae and sequence-specific PCR amplification of autolysin gene were performed. There was a statistically significant increase in PCR diagnosed cases than that diagnosed by blood culture with higher PCR sensitivity.

slums in India: A focus on metropolitan cities

Rapid urbanization and increasing migration from rural areas has led to growth of slums in every city/town, not only in India, but elsewhere in the world. Nearly world’s 1/3rd urban population were lived in slums in 2001. Majority of them were in the developing regions accounting for 43 percent contrast to 6 percent in more developed regions. India alone accounted for 17 percent of the world’s slum dwellers. In 2001, 42.6 million persons were living in slums spread over 640 cities/towns. In metropolitan cities every fifth person was living in slums area in 2001.
