University students’ perceptions of hazing: a gender approach

The initiation rituals that freshmen are subjected to in universities have been characterized quite differently, although the most frequent view is that it is a rough experience for those coming to higher education for the first time. Gender has emerged as a differentiating variable of how students experience this practice. In this study, our interest is to find out the perceptions of university students over the events that take place during the entry to higher education through a comparative gender analysis. The sample included247 students of both genders.

Evaluating rural development through women empowerment using icrofinance programmes

The salvation of an underdeveloped economy lies in its development. The basic objectives of this paper are to estimate Women Empowerment Index using Principal Component Analysis and to examine the effectiveness of joint liability microfinance programmes through cooperative banks in empowering rural women socially and economically. The sample has been selected from one block of Hooghly district. The role of Hooghly district cooperative bank is significant. Results show that the women are empowered socially and economically which has contributed to rural development.

The status of rural women in current scenario

Tribal, rural and urban are the three types of society on the basis characteristic and problems. India is the country of villages. Six lakhs villages are scattered across India and 74% population accommodated in rural society. In rural society, most affected and exploited factor i.e. rural women. In the age of globalization and urbanization slowly rural women is tilting towards development but expected success could not get in the rural society of India. Indian rural women are suffering various social, psychological cultural, economical, physical and psychological problems.

Results are assessed through mid-term reviews (MTRs), implementation completion reports (ICRs), or through more rigorous impact evaluations (IE), all of which require the collection of baseline data before the project or programme begins.

Interplay between cultural endowments, promotional efforts and destination image: a case of zanzibar as a tourist terminus

This study was conducted to explore the relationship between cultural endowments and effective promotional efforts in the promotion of destination image. Data were collected from 410 international tourists in Zanzibar airport’s departure lounge using a highly structured questionnaire. The findings from structural equation modeling revealed a significant relationship between cultural endowments and destination image. The effectiveness of destination promotional efforts also revealed a significant mediating relationship between both cultural endowments and destination image.

Portfolio construction using the sharpe index model with reference to sugar and metal sector on India

The main aim of this research is to construct optimum portfolio through Sharpe index model. The portfolio is constructed to help the investor to reduce the risk.  In this study two sector sugar and metal are chosen for constructing the portfolio. Ten companies are selected from each of these sectors and ranked according to single index model. The cut-off points are than calculated and securities are selected for construction of optimal portfolio. Proportion of investment in each security in the portfolio is found out.

Diatom frustules continue examined commonly during autopsies of deaths due to drowning. Diatoms are unicellular microorganisms which are commonly found in almost all water bodies. Their silica wall plays significant tool in forensic diatomology. Diatom analysis has been suggested to provide supportive evidence of drowning but the consistency and applicability of quantitative and qualitative diatom analysis in the diagnosis of drowning is still tentative in the literature.
