Correlation between accuracy sensitivity specificity and positive predictive value parameters in detecting differentially expressed genes

RNA-seq high-throughput sequencing technology is rapidly becoming the standard method for measuring RNA expression levels. We previously evaluated the performance of different grape microarray design strategies based on custom microarray platforms assuming RNA-seq gene expression data as a reference. We subsequently evaluated sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and positive predictive value (PPV) parameters of these microarray design strategies in detecting significantly differential expressed genes (DEGs) in gene expression differential analysis.

The impact of credit and productivity improvement on farm household welfare based on agro ecosystems in east Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia

This study about the impact of credit and productivity improvement was aimed to discover the changes in farm household production, income and expenditure in dryland and wetland agro ecosystem zones. The study was conducted in Kupang Regency and Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS) Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, Indonesia. This province was chosen because it is one of the poorer provinces in Indonesia. Data were collected using the structured interview technique from 178 farm households; 128 households in the dryland zone and 50 households in the wetland zone.

Impact of futures contract on agricultural commodity prices: an Indian perspective

The futures market can reduce volatility in the spot prices of the commodities and provide effective hedging of the price risk. The turnover of the commodity futures market has grown in a short span of time. The futures market can become an effective instrument of risk management and price discovery for the benefit of the producers, investors, consumers and companies. The competent authorities have over-looked the mechanism of checks and balances which can redistribute income from the small players to the big speculative financial market entities.

Comparison of foraging behaviour of APIS species related to pollinating efficiency on parental lines of Brassica napus L.

A study was conducted on relative pollination efficiency of Apis species on hybrid seed production plots of Brassica napus. Observations on foraging behaviour of four honey bee species (Apis mellifera, A.dorsata, A.cerana and A.florea) visiting parental lines of B. napus, revealed that all foragers (100 per cent) of A.mellifera and A.dorsata were top workers  and came in contact with reproductive parts of flowers of both lines. Percentage of such bees was lower in case of A. cerana and the lowermost as far as A.florea was concerned.

Physico-chemical characteristics of solar saltpans in Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu

Sodium chloride (salt) is manufactured in solar saltpans.  Salt, an inexpensive and abundant commodity, plays a prominent role in the development of man’s activities.  The most abundant source of common salt is sea water.  It is manufactured by various methods, of which the solar evaporation of sea brine, backwater and sub-soil brine water is predominant.  The physico-chemical features and biological systems are essential for the proper functioning of saltpans.  This paper explains the physico-chemical parameters of brine at various stages i.e., (1) reservoir, (2) condenser and (3) crystall

Use of quantum cryptography in commercial application

Quantum cryptography is unconditional secure communication by using the phenomena of Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, no-cloning theorem of photon of quantum mechanics. Further, conventional cryptography susceptible at present computer computation but processing speed grow more rapidly and quantum computer abruptly launch then classical cryptography not so useful, it is easily breakable with the help of quantum computers.

Plasmid mediated multidrug resistant salmonella enterica serovar typhi isolated from in and around Chennai, Tamilnadu - India

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the transfer of resistant markers through conjugation and transformation evaluation of transconjugate strains for stability of R – plasmid against different conditions like several passages and storage in different temperatures for different time period. Around 2423 clinical samples collected from hospitals and health centers in and around chennai, and 105 isolates confirmed for Salmonella enteric serovar typhi based on preliminary, biochemical and cultural characteristics.

Deriving insight and intuition from business data: Review by example

‘Insight’ combines several ideas. It includes ‘classic’ areas, such as knowing who consumers are, what they do, where they are, what they buy, what they would like to buy, what media they are exposed to and what media they choose to view, listen to or read. It also includes more psychological areas – what consumers think and feel, what their objectives and strategies are, and how these influence the way they behave. The list of attributes to examine is long and it should remain in the hands of the researcher or data analyst which variables are retained in the model and which are excluded.

The innovative technique of utilizing panoramic radiography for prediction of osteoporosis: invention to recent advancement

Dental panoramic radiographs or orthopantomographs, have received overwhelming attention from clinical researchers and dental practioners worldwide in the recent years. The credit for this interest is attributed to the potential use of orthopantomographs in the prediction of skeletal osteoporosis.
