Characterization of chronic pain on state policemen in training and self-regulation of behavior

The present study aims to analyze the occurrence and characteristics of chronic pain on State Policemen in training, evaluating possible preventive and/or corrective effects of self-regulated attitudes. It uses quantitative techniques of exploratory and descriptive nature. As instrument for collection of data, it applied a pain inventory with participants from the Centro de Formação de Praças (CFAP) in Belém, Pará. The sample consisted of 32 privates in training.

Survey and preventive management of missing data due to unanswered

An important challenge in statistical modeling involves determining an appropriate structural form for a model to be used in sampling. Various sampling methods have been developed by many researchers, namely the Time Location Sampling (TLS) method by Quaglia and Vivier, the Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) method by Heckathorn, and the filter-survey method (MEF) by Kalton, etc. In this paper, we propose the Sampling By Use of Complicity (SBUC) model based on the principle of use of interviewers assisted by accomplice units.

Importance of diagnosis of cryptococcosis in companion animals aiming an alert to public health

In this case female canine, Dachshund, at one year and eight months, which initially presented cough, then sudden bilateral blindness, emesis and dyspnea. Evolving to opisthotonos, nystagmus, convulsion, and soon in respiratory arrest and death. Microscopy of lesions found in the central nervous system, peri-bronchial lymph nodes and pulmonary alveoli revealed numerous yeasts. The lesions were associated with the presence of intralesional yeasts, compatible with Cryptococcus neoformans.

Death in the process of teaching and learning in nursing: Thinking in the light of the thought of Gadamer

This philosophical essay aims to reflect on the problem of death in nursing education from Gadamerian philosophy. Nurses have an important role to patients’ needs in the process of death, and to their families who are often not prepared for the end. Although in their training process, these professionals are trained to perform complex procedures and handling devices, they are not prepared to deal with issues related to the end of life.

Nutritional status, dementia and associated factors ininstitutionalized elderly

Background: Dementia is a neurodegenerative process considered the primary characteristic in a group of diseases with similar qualities in which the elderly presents decreased global cognitive function, with impairment on daily activities, being Alzheimer’s disease (AD) the most common cause. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the dementia presence, nutritional status and associated demographic factors in elderly assisted in a Health Assistance Reference Centre in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Predictive value of snappe ii for neonatal mortality

The objective of the study was to analyze the Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology Perinatal Extension IIscore as a predictor of neonatal mortality, describing the clinical and epidemiological profile of neonates hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit at a cardiology reference institution in the Northern Regionin Brazil. Nine clinical variables were investigated by analyzing each patient's chart and were duly scored. The study score ranged from 0 to 162, and the higher the score, the higher was the severity of the newborn’s condition, considering the duration of hospital stay.

Association between serum ferritin and type-2 diabetes mellitus

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common, chronic, metabolic disorder, in which glucose utilization is reduced, producing hyperglycemia. It is due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency, that leads increased blood glucose level in the body. Along with hyperglycemia, development of debilitating complications like retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, cardiovascular diseases and cerebrovascular diseases also make it as a major public health concern in the world.
