Vertical destructive pattern of Amrasca biguttula (ISHIDA) to sunflower and its control in Kolhapur District of Maharashtra

Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) is cell sap sucking insect pest of Sunflower Helianthus anus (L.) which affect the yield of crop by allowing leaves yellow, curly, causing sooty moulds and affecting photosynthesis of the crop plant. Therefore, vertical destructive pattern of this species has been reported. The lower leaves had lowest number of nymphs and upper highest. The peak of incidence was noticed in the month of August and it was higher in low rainfall spots (Shirol and Kolhapur) than in higher rainfall spot (Radhanagari).

Typology of cattle livestock production systems in cöte d’ivoire

This study aimed to achieve typology of cattle production system related to social and structural characteristics. It was conducted in the two main breeding regions (central and northern) of Côte d’Ivoire; in 5 five departments of the central region and 7 departments in the northern region. A total of 1,041 farmers were interviewed; 599 farmers in the central region and 442 in the northern region. The results showed that cattle livestock production practices are closely linked to the social, lifestyle and skills of farmers.

Seasonal variations and forecasting in wholesale prices of rice (paddy) in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh

The analysis of trends, seasonal variations and in market prices of rice in Guntur district and Andhra Pradesh and forecast the same for the period 1990-91 to 2009-10 collected from various published statistical bulletins. The seasonal variations in market prices and 12 months moving average method was used to construct the seasonal indices and Box-Jenkins model was used to forecast the future prices. The annual average wholesale price trends of rice from 1990-91 to 2009-10 has shown a significant increase over the years in both Andhra Pradesh and Guntur market.

Anticancer effect of Coleus amboinicus (Karpooravalli) on human lung cancer cell line (A549)

Cancer is a major public health problem in both developed and developing countries. Plant derived products are being used for the treatment of cancer. Aromatic plants of lamiaceae family are known for its traditional medicinal value. The leaves of the plants are promoted in relieving cold, coughs, laryngitis, bronchitis, nasal congestion, inflammation of the mouth and throat. The leaves of Coleus amboinicus (C.amboinicus) have antioxidant, antibacterial, antimutagenic and anticancer activity. Ethanolic extract of C.

Environmental factor influence on foliar and stem pests of grain amaranth in low midlands agro-ecological zones of Kenya: Correct timing for effective pest management

The pigweed beetle Hypolixus haerens Boheman has been cited as a major insect pest of grain amaranth worldwide. A study to evaluate injury level of both foliar and stem damage pests in Kenya revealed that the stem beetle H. haerens caused higher stem damage in the hotter zone (26-30 ºC) than the cooler zone (22-26 ºC) in the low midlands zones of Kenya.

Change and growth rate analysis in area, yield and production of wheat in Ethiopia

The study measured the change and growth rate in area, production, and yield of wheat in Ethiopia based on secondary data during 1991/92-2012/13. Pared t-test was used to identify the significant change in area, production and yield of wheat between the periods 1991/92-2001/02 and 2002/03-2012/13. And semi-log model was applied to measure the compound annual growth rate of wheat for period I (1991/92 to 2001/02), period II (2002/03 to 2012/13) and the whole period (1991/92 to 2012/13).

Formulation and evaluation of a moisturizing day cream containing olive leaves extract

The purpose of the current work is to investigate the incorporation of olive leaves extract standardized for oleuropein which have antioxidant, anti inflammatory, skin protectant and anti-aging properties into stable topical moisturizing day cream formulations. The physiochemical and rheological properties, and accelerated stability tests of three cream formulas containing different concentrations (0.1%, 0.4% and 1.0% w/w) of olive leaf extracts were assessed and compared with commercial cream product containing no olive leaf extract.

Co-variants influencing morbidity pattern among aging women

Health and Human rights has explicit intrinsic connections and has emerged as powerful concepts. Health is a major instrument of social and economic development and it can play a very important role in the creation of a new world. The Extension of human life in the 21st century has been achieved due to a combination of improved medical, social and evolutionary factors, resulting in a growing number of ageing population in most countries of the world, including India. The graying world is also witnessing several other phenomena, one of which is that of ‘graying feminization of aging’.

Enhanced salt-mediated oxidative stress tolerance in transgenic tobacco overexpressing acerola gdp-l-galactose phosphorylase and phosphomannomutase genes

Ascorbate (AsA) plays an important role in stress responses in plants as one of the highly abundant metabolites that scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS). Under salt stress conditions, transgenic tobacco plants overexpressing acerola (Malpighia glabra) GDP-L-galactose phosphorylase (GGP) and phosphomannomutase (PMM) genes accumulated higher amount of AsA, exhibited reduced levels of lipid peroxidation, and maintained higher levels of chlorophyll compared with control plants.
