Socio-economic status of sugarcane growers: a case study of bijnor districts in western uttar pradesh

Sugarcane is mainly cultivated for sugar production in the world and is an important cash crop of India. It plays a key part in the upliftment of socio-economic condition of the growers. In Uttar Pradesh, sugarcane not only supports the economy but also the major crop which is the source of income of millions of farmers. As an important cash crop of mid western plain zone sugarcane occupies nearly 70 percent of cultivated land. This study is based on primary data and conducted during the year 2012-13.

Genetic diversity analysis of butea monosperma from different agroecological regions of india using issr marker system and its comparison with RAPD

In the present paper, we report the use of ISSR markers and their comparison with RAPD to analyze the genetic diversity of Butea monosperma from different agroecological regions viz. arid, semi-arid, dry sub-humid and moist sub-humid. For this purpose, 26 ISSR primers were tested. Of them 7 reproducible primers yield 58 (83%) polymorphic bands. The average value of Nei’s gene diversity and resolving power were 0.71 and 7.47 respectively.

Effect of structured demonstration on aseptic wound dressing among the nursing students of INE GTBS (c) Hospital Ludhiana, Punjab

A Pre experimental study was conducted among the 300 nursing students of Institute of nursing education, Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib (C) Hospital, Ludhiana. Information was collected with the help of self structured checklist. The tool for data collection included socio-demographic variables and checklist consisting of items related to steps of aseptic wound dressing technique. Structured Check list was used to collect data regarding technique of aseptic wound dressing, which contain 40 items regarding aseptic wound dressing. Data were coded, validated and analyzed using SPSS (version 18).

Hypovitaminosis d in female medical and para-medical students at king abdulaziz university in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Vitamin D deficiency is a prevalent health problem worldwide. Several factors determine vitamin D status including ethnicity, nutrition, and extent of adiposity. Well-educated medical students are expected to have higher levels of vitamin D than that reported in the general population. The aim of this study was to determine vitamin D status in female medical and paramedical students studying at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The study of trends in exports of onion from India

Onion (Allium cepa) is one of the important commercial vegetable crops grown in India. Annual production of onion is estimated to be about 74.50 Lakh tonnes. This quantity is enough to meet the present domestic requirement as well as export of onions. India is a traditional exporter of onion in the world. Present study is trying to have a glance at the trends in export of this onion from India.

Status of rural women engaged in floriculture activities

The study was conducted in the purposively selected block Gaighata of the purposively selected district of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, India to know the status of rural women engaged in floriculture activities. The data was collected from the randomly selected 100 respondents of the block with the help of a pre-tested structured interview schedule. Collected data were compiled and analysed statistically. It was found that the majority of the respondents did not take any govt. help and they were not having any idea about new technology related to floriculture.

Preferential distribution pattern of the yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) on Chilli

Investigation on the spatial distribution of yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) was studied at the Department of Entomology, GKVK, Bangalore during 2008-09. The mite population comprising of eggs as wells as active stages were more abundant on leaves in the top canopy (165.69/leaf) of the chilli plant compared to the leaves in the middle canopy (111.18/leaf).
