Using perspective approach for strategic planning in ngos: Usefulness and challenges

Strategic Planning is an essential process for every organization as it helps in deciding future course of action. Though the concept of strategic planning and most of the related frameworks were developed considering the corporate sector however its relevance has increased considerably over the period in Public sector too. Perspective and emergent approach for strategic planning are two commonly used approaches for strategic planning in corporate sector. Both the approaches have its own advantages and limitations. This paper provides a brief background on strategic planning specially in relation to public sector organization. Further, comparison between perspective and emergent approach of strategic planning is presented. Usefulness of perspective approach for strategic planning in public sector organization and its limitation is discussed in detail. It is observed that though perspective approach has certain limitations but it has several advantages over emergent approach and limitations can be overcome by incorporation of feedback loop while implementation of strategy.
