Objective: To point out the importance of implementing SAE for quality care in the PACU in the immediate postoperative period (POI). Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional, exploratory, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The study was carried out at the PACU of a referral hospital for urgency, emergency and trauma located in the city of Campina Grande - PB, with 127 patients who underwent elective orthopedic surgery. Discussion and Results: It was observed that most patients 48.8% (n = 62) remained in the PACU for up to 1 hour, highlighting that all patients were referred to the PACU before being transferred to the ward. Due to the short period of time, complications were not evidenced in the 100% PACU (n = 127). It is noted that the applicability of SAE minimizes possible complications for the patient who is in the immediate postoperative period. Final Considerations: The seriousness of nursing care systematization can be verified as a fundamental mechanism of action of nurses, as it improves post-surgical patient care, as well as being of great relevance to professional practice.
