The present study aims to know the reality of the performance of health services for the promotion of mental health with a focus on suicide prevention, systematizing the data on this reality from the existing knowledge in Brazil in the last five years For this purpose, the narrative review methodology was used, and 9 articles were selected for discussion in this study The data are available in the Virtual Health Library - VHL, Periodicals of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - CAPES and PubMed databases In the results found, similar aspects of action were evidenced in different regions of the country, especially highlighting the limitations found for the implementation of suicide prevention strategies The first one is related to the difficulty of working on the topic of suicide, which is still presented as a taboo and social stigma The second impasse is related to the lack of preparation of health professionals to meet and manage these demands The third limitation highlights the view of health professionals who consider social determinants as difficulties that make their practices unfeasible, since the demands presented by users exceed the team's ability to offer care Finally, a fourth limitation is highlighted, the scarcity of public investment in mental health services It was found that working on the topic of suicide is still a challenge for health services and for the intersectoral network.
