Abstract: 

Introduction: Obstructive Sleep Apnea Obstructive Syndrome (OSA) is a common sleep disorder, characterized by a complete or partial obstruction of the uper airways, which causes choking, loud snoring and frequent awakenings. The ocular manifestations associated with the syndrome are glaucoma, optic neurophaty, corneal (dry eye) and lid alterations. The study of these associations leads to a better therapeutic aproach and the prevention of potencially harmful complicactions to patients sight. Objective: Describe the most prevalent ocular alterations in patients with OSA syndrome, foccucing in sings and simptoms of dry eye. Methods: 40 patients clinically stable, with confirmed diagnosis of OSA syndrome by polysomnographic test were submitted to a full ophtalmological test which included there ocular complains and evaluation of anterior segment by the slit lamp. Results: The group with desaturation episodes had a bigger proportion of patients with lower BUT (between 8-15 – 43,8%). In the group with absence of desaturation episodes, most patient had BUT higher than 15(87,5%). The lowest AHI obtained reduced BUT (between 8-15 – 46,2%). Conclusion: The prevalence of signs and simptoms of dry eye is higher in OSA syndrome patients, these fidings were related to a higher AHI and to desaturation episodes during sleep.
