This paper presents a data mining study based on the process time average in the second instance in a Brazilian law organization. First, a review of knowledge discovery in databases and data mining concepts was performed, and after, some data mining techniques were applied on a database with 51,052 records relating to pending processes in the second instance. The obtained results covered a discretization of the amount of time in which the processes were pending, in which internal areas the process was, as well as the procedural class that defined it. Association and classification tasks were performed, and they presented correlations between the time of processes and the internal areas of the organization, demonstrating in which there was a shorter period, and in which the pendency was higher. Subsequent works suggested deepening data mining in other phases and process classifications.
