Patient safety culture of health professionals in health institutions: a systematic review

This study aimed to verify the perception of the patient safety culture from point of view of professionals in the health institutions. This is a systemic literature review study based on the guiding question. This is a systematic literature review study based on the guiding question. "What is the patient safety culture in health institutions by health professionals?". The survey article was conducted at the Virtual Health Library (VHL), applying the indicators “Quality in Health” and Patient Safety and Safety Culture”, in a way isolation and associated. That search resulted in 324 articles found. For an analysis, duplicate articles, literature reviews, instrument validation studies, evaluation of psychometric properties and health quality indicator were excluded, besides those who did not answer the guiding question applied to health institutions and their professionals. The 15 articles were analyzed as a Patient Safety Culture in their health facilities. Most were released in English and were published in public institutions and Tertiary Care, these articles evaluated the multidisciplinary health team and used the HSOPSC, furthermore it introduced a work dimension "Teamwork within the units", "Organizational learning and continuous improvement," "Job satisfaction" and "Expectation / Supervisors’ action" with the highest percentage of positive responses, while the dimensions with the highest percentage of negative responses were: "Staff ”,“ General Perception of Patient Safety”,“Hospital Management Support for Patient Safety ”and“ Teamwork among the hospital units”. Publications on patient safety culture are growing in healthcare facilities, especially in hospitals, as it is a topic of great importance and impact on the healthcare quality, but there are still gaps that need to be studied and worked on the management and organization models at the different level of care.
