Perception of elderly people in cohabitation regarding their family relationships

Objective: To comprehend the perceptions of the elderly people in cohabitation regarding their Family relationships. Methods: It is a study with a qualitative approach and of descriptive and exploratory character. It was carried out with 71 elderly people registered in two Family Health Units in the city of Vitória da Conquista – Bahiawho displayed preserved cognitive conditions. There were collected the data through an interview comprising a semi-structured questionnaire with a guiding question during the months of December 2017 to June 2018, through household visits. Results: It was used the Thematic Content Analysis Technique, which created two central categories: Family relationships characterized by the well-being feeling; Family relationships characterized by the preoccupation’s feeling. Conclusion: The categories enabled a better comprehension of the elderly people perceptions regarding their cohabitation with their Family members being surround by harmonious and non-harmonious relations.
