Introduction: Quality of life (QoL) is one of the expected results for the health sector and an important condition in the evaluation of health care practices and public policies. Objective: To characterize scientific production in Brazil about QoL in patients with myocardial infarction. Methodology: This is a bibliographical review of the systematic type. The literature review was carried out in the databases of the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), the Nursing Database (BDEnf) and the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System online (MEDLINE) from October to December 2017 through the Virtual Health Library (BVS). Results: Twelve studies were selected for analysis. The main instrument used was the generic SF-36. The domain with the lowest score was physical aspect, the women presented lower QoL. Myocardial revascularization and supervised cardiac rehabilitation were important in improving QOL. Conclusion: It was possible to identify some important aspects in the improvement of QoL and factors that contribute negatively to the recovery of the physical and mental well being of the subjects. Future studies are needed to assess differences in coping with the disease in relation to gender.
