Introduction: One of the greatest victories achieved by humanity in the 20th century was the increase in life expectancy, which became, however, the great challenge for the current century that was accompanied by the gradual improvement of the health parameters of the populations, although these achievements are far from being distributed harmoniously in different countries and socioeconomic contexts. Objective: To describe and characterize from a sociodemographic and epidemiological point of view its influences on the diet of the elderly assisted in the university extension program. Methodology: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study through field research in an interview. Results and Discussion: Of the 54 participants that make up the sample, most are female (81.5%) and the prevalent age group was 60-69 years (59.3%) with a predominance of females in the studied group (61.4%). In relation to marital status, the highest percentage was married (64.8%). When asked about schooling, most of them know how to read and write (94.4%) as well as having an education level between 8 years or more (66.7%). Conclusion: It is also possible to conclude that the elderly surveyed had some disease, among which hypertension and diabetes stand out, corroborating other studies that demonstrate that aging in Brazil is not synonymous with health.
