This article presents a systematic exploratory bibliographic study based on search data on the CAPES and SCIELO platforms, using the qualitative technique for the analysis of the articles. The study addressed the theme that orbits under intellectual disability and the importance of the role of the teacher who works with students with special learning needs in the regular classroom. Considering that inclusion is a topic of interest to the entire educational system due to its complexity, breadth and repercussion, working with people with special educational needs has always become a major challenge in the school environment. In view of the theoretical framework addressed in this study, it was noticed that there are teachers who are not yet prepared and have many difficulties in working with these students, these teachers need to be prepared, with specific qualification and improvement courses to attend students with special needs. learning and intellectual disability.
