Space as a guided environment is always produced by humans where in its formation process, there are planned and unplanned spaces. Unplanned spaces tend to be formed by local communities with local spirit. Banua Oge (Souraja) is the king's settlement (royal palace) in ancient time. Souraja was construted in the late XIX (19th) century amid the “To-Kaili” tribe which is a supporting community for the glory of Palu Kingdom. The tradition of exploiting space for the construction of the royal palace at that time was on a vacant lot (no owner lot). This condition became the beginning of the formation of the living space for “To-Kaili” tribe which is located in the Palu Valley. The purpose of this study is to findout the basic formation (Setting of Space) of living space of “To-Kaili” Tribe in Palu Valley. This study research uses naturalistic paradigm which is conducted in a natural setting by using natural method which is based on phenomenological view (Moleong, 2004). This study was started by conducting a grand tour then continued by conducting mini tour. The field data (empirical), the results of interview (informants) were analyzed inductively. The result of this study is used to find out the process of formation of the living space of “To-Kaili” Tribe in Palu Valley.
