Orthodontic aligners have become reality in orthodontist's offices, however, their use should always be carried out with concern regarding their indications and limitations. The desires for a good aesthetic cannot prevail the clinical results obtained. The article in question is a review of the literature of aesthetic aligners, with the objective of reviewing the scientific literature seeking to describe the different generations of alignment systems, discussing their main characteristics, Explaining the efficacy of this orthodontic system in dental movement without causing damage to the patient's aesthetics. For this, a bibliographic survey was carried out in the main databases of the Latin American and Caribbean Center for Information on Health Sciences (BIREME), Medline, Pubmed, LILACS and BBO, in addition to the virtual library Scielo in the period from 2014 to 2019, with Exception of a classic article of 1945. The words used for the research were: orthodontic appliances, aesthetic aligners, orthodontic aligners, dental positioning and orthodontic aesthetics.
