Study of linkages of service sector in India

Abstract: 

The study attempts to evaluate sectoral linkages of the service sectorof Indian economy by means of input output analysis. The data source of the study is the input output table consisting 130 sectors for the year 2007-08 (published in 2012) prepared by CSO which, for the purpose of analysis has been consolidated to 20sectors.By means of input output analysis,backward linkages, forward linkages and multiplier effects for the service sector has been determined.Both backward and forward linkages are used to identify the key sectors within the service sector.The findings of the study confirm the significance of the service sectorfor the economic development of the economy and identifies, transport, business services and restaurants and hotels as key sectors within the services.
