Objective: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with depression / depressive symptoms in adolescence. Materials and Methods: A research for scientific works was carried out in the Lilacs and Medline databases through the VHL, Scielo, Pubmed and Scopus. Descriptors were used: depression, adolescent and risk factors. The following inclusion criteria was adopted: articles published in the last five years, languages: English, Portuguese or Spanish, and studies with a sample of adolescents. Results: 15 articles were selected and 19 risk factors for depression / depressive symptoms in adolescence were found. The most risk factors mentioned belonged to the group of emotional / social factors. Conclusion: The evolution of research on depression in adolescence shows us a great variability in risk factors, but at the same time, a certain connection between them, which shows the need for multi and interprofessional action by health teams in providing a better assistance to the adolescent's mental health with the goal of reducing the rates of depression and its consequences.
