Abstract:

Among the types of obstetric violence, there is a denial of the right to a companion during childbirth. All women should receive information about the right to a companion during the entire delivery. Thus, this study aimed to describe the socioeconomic profile of women who undergo prenatal follow-up and their perception of the presence of the companion during pregnancy in the Basic Health Unit of Júlia Seffer, municipality of Ananindeua, State of Pará. Descriptive study with qualitative approach, of the type of field research, conducted with 15 pregnant women in the Basic Health Unit of Júlia Seffer, located, in the municipality of Ananindeua, in the state of Pará. The script of the semi-structured interview included socioeconomic questions and about the pregnant woman's companion. Data analysis was performed using bardin's technique. In view of the statements, it is perceived that they know the right to have a companion during childbirth, but do not necessarily need to be the father but the person of the mother's choice, this does not take away the importance of the father in the follow-up of prenatal consultations as a form of preparation prior to the experience of childbirth and birth. It is essential that the system that provides care provides education about the rights before their body and choices, because for autonomy to be respected it is essential that women have a sufficient perception to decide the options and claim that their rights are met.
