In developing countries, every person aged 60 years or older is considered to be an elderly person, although it extends to 65 years in developed nations. The objective of this study was to describe the clinical and epidemiological profile of the hospitalizations of elderly people in an emergency situation in the municipality of Coari. It is a cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study. Data collection took place between September 10 and 21, 2018, in the statistical sector of the Coari Regional Hospital. 141 medical records were analyzed to obtain the main variables of this study, considering 130 medical records (92,2%) within the eligibility criteria. The research evidenced that the highest causes of hospitalization in the elderly are due to diseases of the genitourinary tract (63,6%), respiratory system (59,1%) and circulatory system (52,6%) in women aged 80 to 89 years. Based on the data obtained for this study, it was also possible to identify and recognize the profile of the elderly in emergency hospitalizations in the municipality of Coari / AM, whose analysis showed a predominantly male hospitalization profile with 53,1%, compared to the female with 46,9%.
