Abstract:

A The objective is to study the rainfall variability on the performance of the ENSO climatic phenomenon in the municipality of São Bento do Una - PE which has been facing the water crisis in the present day. Monthly and annual rainfall series were used, provided by the Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency of the State of Pernambuco and the Northeast Development Superintendence, referring to the ENSO year. The rainfall indices for 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013 are from the El Niño phenomenon, with the performance of La Niña 1998, 1999, 2000, 2008. Regarding the performance of El Niño, the years 2009, 2010 are highlighted. 60% and 58.3% more than the climatological normal. The years 2007 and 2013 were considered normal and 2012 was considered very dry. The years with La Niña, 2000 and 2008, registered an increase in rainfall of 28.55% and 27.17% respectively, in 2001 rain was registered between normality in the years 1998 and 1999, considered as dry years. . In the municipality, the performance of the El Niño/La Niña phenomena does not influence the increases or decreases in rainfall. Since anthropic interference is registered in the current drought in the region, further studies are needed to identify the anthropic factors, and thus propose solutions for the drought in the municipality.
