Abstract:

The More Doctors Program was created with the intention of reducing the shortage of doctors in Primary Health Care in some remote and priority municipalities. The objective was to understand the users' perception of the health care offered by the professionals included in the Project More Doctors for Brazil, in the border municipalities of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, of a qualitative nature, developed in the 12 municipalities on the border line of that State. 64 users from 43 Basic Family Health Units were interviewed, from July to November 2018. The Content Analysis of the empirical data showed results about health needs, weaknesses of the assistance rearing in the Health Care Network, increased demand for medical consultations in PHC and resolvability and credibility of medical consultation. According to the users' perception, the centralization of availability of medicines and immunobiologicals, the lack of specialist professionals and the difficulty of accessing the exams were unsatisfactory. However, positive aspects such as the presence of a full-time doctor reflected on greater resolution and credibility. The need to strengthen and intensify public policies that target these specific populations is evident.
