Abstract: 

Objective: The following work aims to demonstrates the impact that primary health care has on the Brazilian population, in view of its programs offered, for free. Describing its evolution since before the creation of the Unified Health System until the creation of the family health strategy. Methodology: A bibliographic review was carried out. Through articles selected from the SCIELO and LILACS databases, through the descriptors: “Health Unic System (SUS)”, “Sanitary Reform”,"Health policies". Conclusion: primary health care is of great importance, being considered the gateway to the SUS, offering various services, based on universality, integrality and equity.
