The school is a place where children stay for a relatively long period of their lives and where dental injuries can occur. Teachers have the potential to play an important role in preventing this disorder as well as in its early care. The aim of this study was to perform a literature review about teachers' knowledge about dental trauma. For this purpose, an electronic search was performed using the Scielo, PubMed and Lilacs databases. The results indicated that teachers are not able to deal with dental trauma, which demands training programs for teachers from public and private schools. Studies that carried out some type of educational action showed improvement in relation to the initial knowledge about dental trauma, revealing the importance of keeping these professionals updated regarding the knowledge of the subject. It was concluded that the heterogeneity in the methodologies used in the evaluated studies makes it difficult to compare them, although it was possible to notice that the teachers have insufficient knowledge to deal with dental trauma situations.
