In recent years, the use of anxiolytics has been increasing, and individuals seeking relief from anxiety initially end up making abusive use and developing physical dependence on these medications. The educational actions developed by nursing professionals are very relevant to alert the population that anxiolytics are not harmless, that is, they present adverse reactions, since this should only be used in specific situations. The present article aims to identify the role of health education in the orientation towards the rational use of anxiolytics by the population. This is an integrative review of literature, carried out in the electronic library SCIELO, in the database (BDENF) and in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). In this review we also used bibliographical research selecting five articles to better justify the results. In the analysis of the articles, they resulted in satisfactory and encouraging opinions, since they showed that the use of educational resources to alert the population about the risks caused by the excess use of anxiolytics is effective. Despite the positive scientific finding, it is still necessary to carry out new studies to strengthen scientific knowledge.
