The purpose of this article is to analyze which traumatic aspects in the memories of the character narrator formed the collective memory of the Northeast and its rural culture evoked in the novel, which, in turn, is related, in some way, to the personal trajectory of the author, Izulina Xavier . recounted through memory. Every narrative runs through memory, whether that is its objective or not. In Ten years of emotions, the author exposes her intention, as she manifests at all times that what is being told is a memory, retold by the memory that reconstructs it (cluster of episodes that mark the love story of the narrative). The central theme that seems to tarnish the whole story, as the driving force of family misfortunes, are certain customs imposed by society, which govern and limit individual life and freedom.
