Saliha Koc and Sonay Canbolat

Abstract:

This article aims to improve leadership and management simulation, experiences for nursing students in their final year to make a smooth transition into their professional life. Nurses who are potential leaders may lack necessary experiences and skills. Leadership and management simulation promotes effective support for nurses.26 students (in the final year of undergraduate program) selected the 'Developing Management Skills' course as elective. The course was 28 hours theoretical, 192 hours integrated with clinical practice and 32 hours simulation study. Data were collected using feedback and hiring theoretical course successs score to assess students' knowledge. The result showed that, feedback and recruitment simulation training allow students to cope more easily with situations they encounter when they start working professionaly. It is vital that nurses learn managerial skills in the clinical setting. This method help newly graduated nurses acquire skills of knowing oneself, acting independently, making decisions at service point, developing a vision in line with corporate and professional targets and working in collaboration for positive change. This simulation study with the aim of developing managerial skills is also important because it is the first in our country and it is the guide for the future work to be done.
