Knowledge of nursing professionals about flowchart in accidents with biological materials

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of nursing team about the flowchart in accidents with biological materials in the Family Health Strategy. Methods: Descriptive, observational research, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 23 nursing professionals working in Family Health Strategies in the city of Farias Brito - Ceará, Brazil. Data collection occurred in August and September 2019, through the application of a Checklist and a questionnaire. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS) program was used for data analysis. Results: The professionals understand the flowchart of accidents with biological materials, considering that they pointed the vaginal secretion as the largest vehicle of contamination, being the post-exposure hygiene with water and soap pointed out as post-exposure conduct of the affected area. The diseases susceptible to transmission mentioned were Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. In the observations, the professionals did not use glove for parenteral applications, however, in the collection of blood, urine and feces, in the performance of dressings, and other procedures with risk of contamination, they made use of individual protection equipment. Conclusion: Although they did not receive training on the subject, when observed in practice, nursing professionals showed mastery over the flowchart.
