The present study is the result of research based on observation from pedagogical practices and analysis from literature review on the theme of the teaching-learning process of reading in Elementary School. Observations lead us to realize that the habit of reading requires learning a specific form of communication, which establishes and controls this symbolic universe, an interactive space in which new meanings are being shared, experienced from the moment reading begins. Considering that elementary school students must fully develop reading and writing practices, we defend the training of teachers as an instrument for these practices, as well as pointing out the importance of Pedagogy professionals in school environments, in the construction and development of playful activities and in the teaching-learning process of reading and writing skills.
