Dengue fever (DF) is the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease in the world. The illness was called ‘Water poison’ and was associated with flying insects near water. Outbreak of febrile illnesses compatible with dengue fever has been recorded throughout the world. The aim of the study to assess the level of knowledge on dengue and evaluate the health literacy intervention among rural residents. Family survey was carried out to assess the community knowledge and practice on dengue, Because Most of the people are unaware of sources of mosquito breeding. There is an inevitable need to organize health education programs about dengue disease to increase community knowledge and also to sensitize the community The investigator found the community is vulnerable for dengue fever and need health literacy to prevent themselves from this major outbreak. A quasi experimental design was obtained for this study. Samples were selected by using stratified sampling technique. The total participants were 600 male and female residing at selected villages in Thiruvallore district .One group pretest post test design was adopted for this study. Health awareness about dengue and its prevention is the intervention provided for the public. The study revealed that knowledge of dengue among the rural residents was significantly and positively associated with the practice on dengue fever.
