Employment opportunities for tribal youth in agriculture sector of Tripura

Abstract: 

The study attempts to understand the key questions pertaining to tribal youth employment opportunities in agriculture sector of Tripura. Such questions are: What are the key obstacles to tribal youth employment in the state? And what are the opportunities for creation of employment in agriculture? The present study is based on the secondary data. It is true that tribal are more dependent on agriculture and allied activities than any other section of the society in the state. Agriculture sector is seen neglected during the last decade as its total share of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) declines. Despite of that this sector absorbs the largest labour force and still potential in absorbing labour force in the state. However, tribal youth constitute the largest segment of the tribal population and being the primary productive human resources, the socio-economic development of tribal youth directly linked to the tribal development process. However, like the other sections of the society, the problem of unemployment among tribal youth is one of the gravest that the state is facing today and which need an urgent concerned for the policy makers. If excluded this section of population from economic life, it will remain an untapped resource in terms of increasing prosperity for entire states.
